1989...
The baehr GmbH & Co KG was founded by Manfred Bähr and Bernd Gäbler. The passionate biker and the electronics engineer developed the idea of communication under a helmet into a concept and product ready to launch.
In the beginning, business start-up was humble.
In an old shoe factory they served clients by day, manufactured in the evening and refined at night!
As they won their first comparative tests in journals they began to draw attention to that small Palatine company in Vinningen, close to the border.
The budding business venture began to evolve in this small and very specific niche market. |

1994...
They started developing their very own helmet. Originally they intended to solve the dispute about licensing retro fitted listen/talk equipment in already ECE-licensed helmets (customer’s helmets)
The resulting specifications also demanded to keep noise development caused by airflow low to improve the quality of speech transmission under a helmet.
In 2 years of intense development work, countless test drives and wind tunnel, test track and road measurements they amassed considerable know how in aero-acoustics. |

 |
1996...
we successfully launched the first aero acoustically optimized integral helmet. In comparison to the average helmet its noise development was reduced by more than 50%. This certainly stirred the market! We – an outsider – had taken on noise reduction in helmets. Something, the big helmet manufacturers did not even take seriously at that time
The silent helmet was well received by the market. The reduced noise development met the requirements of a huge clientele. |
| |
1998...
Motivated by the helmet’s huge success, we expanded our company with external products.
With the help of "WhitePower", chassis technology and "Furygan", a top-quality clothing brand we tried to extend our range.
This however, failed to suceed. By the end of 1999 we discontinued the distribution of these products. |

2001...
The old shoe factory in Vinningen became too small. Also, it was not up to the changed standards. Therefore, we decided to buy and by the end of 2001 we moved into our very own premises in Pirmasens.
We found a suitable building in „Husterhöhe“, an area which had formerly been used by the military. On a total area of 5300 m² we have more than 1500m² for production and administration and 500m² for storage at our disposal. With easy access to main roads. And it still left us with approximately 500m² for future expansion. |
